Training the Horse

My Philosophy:

i)        Trust, respect, forgiveness, discipline .  These are the keys to training, and horses.

ii)      Horsemanship: How to teach your horse to trust, and get a willing response "every time," using methods of mental manipulation, without “gimmicks" or force.

iii)    Let the horse teach YOU the best way to ask for predictable results and a willing response

iv) There are no "horse Guru's" and there is no magic to it.  No whispering, that's all nonsense...  It's reading the horse, and knowing how much or how little to apply to each horse, per their reactions and senses.

I want people to be happy with their horse, and the horse to be happy working for the person.

Cuttin Color offers training programs to fit nearly every need and specific circumstance.  We look forward to helping your horse teach you!

Starting the young horse:

Learn what to do in preparation to starting & riding; working early to build that relationship of trust & love. This program explains what care and exercise your young horse needs.  Learn tips to transition your youngster into the saddle, and let him tell you how and when to ease into the first ride.  Finally, evaluate your young horse to determine what career he might excel at the most.

 All-Around Equine Training

Learn techniques ranging from finding a horse to purchase, caring for your horse (feeding, grooming, handling, saddling) to exercise programs, lunging, and general training methods to keep your new horse from becoming “Novice sour”. Learn to handle yourself, and your horse, both on the ground and in the saddle. Your horse will have a working knowledge of everything a horse may be asked to do in the equine world, with the majority of the training occurring in the "safe" environment of the arena & bullpen, with - or without - cattle, depending on the horse's needs,  and your desires.

Trail Riding

Similar to the above, techniques are taught focusing on building the trust between the horse and rider in all areas other than competition.  The goal is to reach the point where you can trust your horse so much, and he has such absolute trust in you, that even when riding in an unknown, and perhaps unexpectedly dangerous predicament, the horse is as calm and willing to respond as if there wasn't a thing in the world affecting him.

Western Pleasure or Competition:

Experience and courses are provided for the advanced rider in all of the following areas:  Reining, Working Cowhorse & Snaffle Bit, Roping, Team Penning, Western Pleasure, Barrels, Poles, and Gymkhana events.  A full arena and bullpen are available, as well as 20 acres of land.  Training includes on-cattle or off, as required.
